    Beginnings

I was born in Illinois, just south of Chicago. I have been making photos since I was a kid. Growing up in the suburban Midwest, cameras provided me an escape, a way to dream of worlds beyond my own.

At 18, I moved to Washington D.C. to study international politics. The pursuit of those studies led me to live in Ecuador, as well as the Czech Republic (where I met my husband, who is also an artist). While I enjoyed my studies, I kept coming back to photography. During those years, I began freelancing and built a portfolio of portrait and event work.

After completing my degree, I taught photography to American high schoolers in France, and then moved to Philadelphia where I continued educating young students about photography.

    Present

I currently live in Philadelphia with my husband, who is also a photographer. We got married in the living room of our 120 year old home. We share our small home with our giant dog, Paul (who is the greyhound you will see in many of my photos).

The ethos of my work is to observe, be playful, and stay curious.

I use both film and digital cameras to shoot weddings. I view the camera as a tool to help craft the emotional narrative I want in the image. Often this is a film camera, as I am continuously drawn to the artistry of analog.

    Future

I always seek out new ways to renew my creativity and keep things fresh. I found this is best done through personal work.

Throughout the next year, I am working on a personal project that centers around my family back in Illinois. I am also experimenting with incorporating my film images into textile work.

With weddings, my greatest source of inspiration is from all the people I work with. I feel immense privilege in getting to do what I do. From the vendors, to the clients, to the guests- it’s a joy to encounter so many people and get a brief glimpse into an intimate day of their lives.

I only take on a certain amount of weddings each year so that I can fully commit my time and energy to each one. If you would like to get in touch, you can head to the Contact portion of my site.

    Thank you for being here.

    xx
